Thanksgiving is a time when many are reminded to be grateful for the blessings in life. We have plenty to be thankful for.

This year,  I have learned a lot more about myself and the GOD given gifts I have been blessed with. I just need to figure out how to use them.

I have always known that people is my strength and I enjoy helping others in need of a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. I just never realised to what capacity till now.

My other passion is sharing food with those I care for. Our spread this year.

I am also blessed to be able to join a community group where we get together to study the Word. It has certainly transformed me.

Being a stay at home mum, wife and then a publix employee is a lot to juggle. I pray that in the coming months, things will be a lot clearer as HE works in me, and show me the way.

My family will always be my priority after God. Soon it will be another year but I have hope it will be filled with new adventures and experience.

In Loving Memory of Connie Hyman

John 5:24  “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

Connie and I were neighbours and then we became friends. She was indeed a very special lady, always a smile on her face and one who loves God. She not only speaks of Christ but she showed her love for HIM boldly. 

She introduced us to Grits Casserole with sausages and we became hooked on it.  Now, when I make it, it will be a constant reminder of Connie. She made us feel comfortable and so at home whenever we visit her. She always made time! A true Southern Lady and more! Not many today share this special trait that she has. 

She loves baking, and I have seen her baking for someone many times and she does this with love. I don't think I have ever seen her hesitate to do something for anyone. 

I have not had the chance to know her as long as many have in her life but the few years she has been a friend, one can easily love this lady! I will never forget the one Saturday when we played board games in my home, the game of Life. We had so much fun and she is always a joy to be around.

Many of us have lost such a dear dear friend and we will continue to remember her and love her. She will not be forgotten. Saddest moment was when we found out of her passing and into the hands of the Lord she is now. She is at peace.

She loved her gardening on the cosy porch of hers and watching the birds. I always thought she had the loveliest porch, nice and green! She had green thumbs. I always looked out for her when we walked pass her home, hoping to catch her for a chat.  There were many times I would drop by at her home after work, past midnight and share a few moments  with her. When a friend knocks on her door, she always invites you in. 

Even with her passing, she is still bringing people together. I know she made an impact in my life just by knowing her, praying together and sharing each others' sadness and worries.

She remains in our hearts, a piece of her and sweet memories shared between friends. I am heartbroken and at the same time I know she is happy celebrating with Jesus. Rest well my friend and until we all meet again someday.

Living on Daniel Island

Ephesians 2:10

It has been a while since my last post but here I am back again with a new story to share. We finally made a move after almost 6 years of living in Mount Pleasant. We had great years and made many memories but now it is time to move forward and start new adventures and memories.

It has been almost 2 weeks since the move and we have enjoyed morning strolls and discovering the living things surrounding us everyday.  My son gets to explore and learn new things. It is not the IOP but we have peace and tranquility everyday.

 There is a special sense of peace living here. Waking up each day and being able to breathe the fresh air and enjoying what God has created for us mere humans, to simply enjoy. 

Just knowing that my family is happy gives me a sense of joy and peace. To top this, I am also starting a new job working at a neighbourhood store and a chance to get to know the community here.

We cannot expect things to remain the same and while it can be tough for some, all we have to do is accept it and take it all in a stride. We learn so much more about ourselves when we are taken out of our comfort zone.

Fear always prevents us from moving forward and exploring opportunities that are out there.

It has certainly been a roller coaster ride for us but one that was worth every moment. It is a constant reminder of how most of us under estimate our ability to adapt.

Thanksgiving 2016

This year, we have plenty to be thankful for.  When we strive to stay positive, even in the toughest of times, life seems much simpler and happier. Tough times makes us strong and appreciate the good times. Whatever it is we experience, it is life. We can always have hope in Christ and trust in HIM.

The simple things in life are there for us to enjoy, if we only take the time to look around us. God created so many beautiful things around us and these are the things that captures our heart and keeps us happy- they are free.

Today, I am thankful for knowing Christ and having a son and husband who loves Christ as much as I do. I am thankful for what we have, food, a home, a job and good health.

 And with that, we must have Mashed potatoes, ciabatta rolls and garlic knots.  It is close to a year since I started baking bread from scratch. Never in my wildest dream did I ever think I would be able to do this. It has brought me great joy knowing I can do this.

Growing Sea Island Cotton - Project

A good friend gave us some Sea Island Cotton seeds almost a week ago. We planted it on the 22-Aug and started monitoring it. Finally, it sprouted this morning. It took about 6 days for this particular one. The other one planted is yet to show any signs of life!  We are feeling hopeful though that it will grow in it's own good time.

It is quite exciting watching seeds sprouting and growing. My mum had a green thumb and always had beautiful assorted greenery in her garden. Plants do need plenty of love and care.

All Aboard the Pride- Teri's Big Birthday Bash

 Captain's Log

14th August, weather today has been sunny and skies are blue. All set for our journey on board the Pride, for the celebration of a good friend's birthday.  Getting there was a little too close for comfort as there were road blocks. About 31 passengers were there to attend this sweet lady's special day. We all made it- after huffing and puffing all the way to the Pride, finally being able to catch a breather! Oh yes, and we have Joe on crutches trying his best to keep up and not get left behind.

An array of goodies served and plenty of joy and love. We saw dolphins, pelicans, sea gulls. It was quite a sight and a very memorable day indeed. New friendships formed, old ones rekindled.

Shopping With Linda W

Today was a fun day. We shopped at Cosco with Linda, in preparation for a good friend's 60th birthday party. I am not much of a shopper other than the usual grocery shopping but Linda makes it all so fun! I must have been shopping with the wrong crowd all this time!  Lol

It does not take much to be happy- just the simple things in life and the company of special friends. That alone makes it so enjoyable. In that, I am so blessed as I am surrounded by wonderful people. Some of them may not live close by but I hold them close to my heart!

As for me, I got to compare the prices of Basmati  Brown Rice and Jasmine Rice. I have it written down somewhere for future reference! It is definitely cheaper at Cosco than the Asian store.  Adrien had a blast as always and the best part was sampling the food and drinks that they have! They also have some very tasty meatball chicken which cannot be found in the regular stores! It's always about the food- at least for me it is!! 

We are home now, cooling off and enjoying the rest of the day. It is another hot day in SC and we cannot wait for Autumn to arrive.For now, I  shall sit back and relax.

Bye Bye Milk Tooth

It finally happened! Adrien lost his first tooth this evening while having his dinner! It has been a little loose for over a week or so now and today he found the courage to pull it out. It was ready to come out and this son of mine was excited to lose it, as many others before him. Well, perhaps some may find that a bit terrifying but every child is different.

Now, I remember back in the days when I was his age and experienced it first hand. This time, I had to close my eyes while he pulled it out on his own! I am a chicken when it comes to my son and I most certainly cannot bear to do the deed for him.

Someday when he reads this, he will be able to recall the memory of losing his first tooth. Many of us barely can recall the day it happened and it may seem trivial but he is my son  I shall jolly well blog this day!

I am certain I will be sharing about the growth of his brand  new tooth, when that happens! No, we are certainly not doing the tooth fairy here as he knows it is just a make believe. He intends on keeping his tooth!  As for me, I am going to continue watching Poirot and enjoy the rest of the evening.

Movie day with friends

Today was a good beautiful day. We went to watch The Secret Life of Pets. It feels good to be able to enjoy a good movie with close friends, Linda, Ann and Emily. Most important of all, it was funny just listening to Adrien react to the movie and the things that he said. It's different when we see things through a child's eyes. They are young and have so much more to experience. Makes one look back and reminisce.

The company and memories made to last us a lifetime. Yes, I do remember the days being a kid when my lovely mum would take me to the movies, a bag of popcorn, the caramel ones, steamed garbanzo beans and those yummy *kacang putih*  (sweet peanuts) to enjoy.

Love and Compassion

We have had quite a weekend with Joe having continuous pain on his left foot and there was not much that either myself nor our son Adrien, could do to ease the discomfort. We could only pray and help to the best that we can.

Today, after a few days of pain, we went to the doctors. It was a family affair. The past month has just been a series of illness, from food poisoning, to the flu, nausea on Joe's part as well and now his foot. The one that got hit the most is Joe. My husband has not gotten a break from these attacks. Did I mention that our cats had fleas! That was not fun trying to rid the home from fleas.  We need a break!

Nevertheless, our son learned from this visit. He got to watch a nurse draw blood and the area they extracted it from and all about  X-rays and taking care of himself and eating well. We simply do not know when our body will fall apart. Today, we got to watch out 6 year old show his compassion and love for his Papa. 

He helped his Papa by holding his hand while walking and carrying little things for him.  He was showing us a side we have not seen. He assisted his papa with his his sandals and much much more. For that I am thankful.

  It is very important for us to impart to our children the importance of caring and helping family or friends when they are in need. It is about the needs of others and there comes a time where we must drop everything else in the name of love, and help our love ones and even a stranger in need. The reward they get from it is feeling happy that they helped.  It is not about monetary gains but about compassion and love. 


Today was a day my son made me proud. When it matters, he was there, my 6 year old boy.

A day in a life with a Toddler

I woke up to one of those mornings when  I knew I had many things to do around the house but  could not bring myself to do that. A typical morning in my home is bath and breakfast for my son, followed by a walk to the clubhouse where we live. Then is is back home to prepare a quick lunch and some reading. I manage to push myself into making some Asian dessert known as Ondeh-Ondeh.

Thankfully, my little boy enjoys is as much as I do and it is a very simple dessert to make.

Some hours later, I was in the  computer room checking my mail for a few minutes and everything seemed too quiet for my comfort. I stepped out of my living room and the scene that greeted me was really something! There was rice flour all over the living room, kitchen, dining and my son. My little boy obviously thought he had made    snow appear in our  home. Needless to say, I made him sit in his room while I clean up the mess and tried to calm down.

Someday, I will look back to this day and laugh. The little things that our children do, no matter how bad it may be,  is forever etched into our hearts and memories forever.

A Rainy Day

About 5 years ago,  on the 10th of August of 2007,  I had the most unforgettable experience of my life. It started on a rainy day, in Pittsburgh PA. 

Heavy torrentials caused the road on delta Drive  where I worked, to flood. It was about 3 feet deep. Cars could not go through and we had a mini truck floating about when he tried to drive through it - which was very funny! A tracktor had to push it out of the flood! A boat would have come in handy here!

Next, the heavy rain caused the building to leak so puddles of water were found all over the lab area - production, clean rooms etc and to top that, we had mice running around the office!!!  I think they are simply adorable and the best part of the day! hehe I could definitely have more days like this! Of course on the down side, the labs were down and no work can be done till they fix it.

After all that, the fire alarm went off and there was a burnt smell everywhere but no smoke. Fire trucks came by to inspect. To top that, one of the fire truck had a boat hauled behind the truck! I managed to save my lunch when we were told to evacuate! We were only able to enter the building by 11am!

Everything was a big puddle of water and mess but we cleaned up! I have to admit that I had a jolly good time doing that! No Kidding here.

3pm : Heavy down pour again and another flood. The leak at the labs started again, this time worst than ever! It was like waterfall coming through the walls! Needless to say, this building is Cursed! It was something out of the movies!  Now, who said that we have to go the movies for a good show!

Well people, I hope you enjoyed reading my little adventure back when I worked at CMI! Things could have been worse but I took it all in a stride. It is part of the entertainment and if we looked closely, we will always find something funny in a bad situation. I just tell myself, God sure does have a Great sense of humour!  It would have been hillarious, if there were mice ridding in little miniature boats floating about the  temporary lake created by the heavy rain, looking for higher ground! Yes, we had mice in the office as well!
